Harlem Mentoring Fair
In August 2013, Total Equity Now, Harlem CARES Mentoring Movement, and event host New York Mission Society Minisink Townhouse joined forces to help caring and committed adults in our community connect with representatives from 11 mentoring and youth-development organizations serving Harlem youth. Attendees left equipped with timely, detailed information about community-based mentoring programs and other opportunities to serve Harlem’s young people. Those prospective mentors also committed to sharing that information with other community members in their respective networks.
In July 2014, Total Equity Now and Harlem CARES collaborated with event host Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Center (Catholic Charities) to host the second annual Harlem Mentoring Fair.
Hundreds of Harlemites have already stepped up and made the commitment to mentor our youth. Yet a troubling gap remains between the thousands of Harlem children who need mentors and the thousands of Harlem adults who have not yet stepped up to become mentors. Total Equity Now is raising awareness about the importance of mentoring and encouraging Harlemites to commit at least an hour a week to helping our youth fulfill their potential.
