Many community members are unaware of these gems, but yes, Harlem is still served by a number of wonderful independent, community bookstores. Some of these establishments serve as social hubs, helping to build community through a wide range of free and inexpensive cultural and community-centered programs and events. And shopping at these small businesses helps bolster the local economy by circulating dollars and providing jobs throughout our village.
